The Formula One World Championship, also known as Formula 1 or F1, is an annual international motor racing competition for single-seat racing cars. It is the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing cars, and is widely regarded as the premier global single-seater racing series. Formula 1 races are held on a variety of tracks around the world, including purpose-built circuits and street circuits, and are contested by teams and drivers representing some of the biggest and most successful names in motorsport. Each team fields two drivers who compete against each other and the other teams to score points towards the Drivers' and Constructors' championships. The team and driver that accumulate the most points over the course of the season are crowned champions. The first Formula 1 World Championship was held in 1950, and the sport has grown to become a major global entertainment event with millions of fans around the world.
