Responsible Gambling
FreeBetsLad exists to cover sport, not to encourage anyone to bet more than they can comfortably afford. Betting is never a way to make money. If gambling has stopped being fun for you or someone you care about, everything on this page is free, confidential and available right now.
What problem gambling is
Problem gambling is gambling that disrupts or damages your life — your finances, your relationships, your work or your mental health — and that feels difficult to cut back on even when you want to. It can affect anyone, at any stake size. It is recognised as a health condition, it is treatable, and asking for help is not a failure.
Common warning signs
- Betting more than you planned to, or with money set aside for essentials
- Chasing losses — betting again to try to win back money you've lost
- Hiding your betting, or lying about how much you spend
- Borrowing money to gamble
- Feeling restless, low or irritable when you try to cut down
- Gambling to escape stress, anxiety or low mood
- Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
If even one or two of these feel familiar, it's worth talking to someone. You don't have to wait until things feel serious.
Self-exclusion tools
GamStop — exclude from every UK gambling site at once
GamStop is the free national self-exclusion scheme. One registration blocks you from every online gambling company licensed in Great Britain, for a period you choose: six months, one year or five years. It takes a few minutes and cannot be reversed early.
Individual bookmaker self-exclusion
Every UK-licensed bookmaker must also offer its own self-exclusion and time-out tools in your account settings — usually under “Safer Gambling” or “Responsible Gambling”. A time-out (24 hours to six weeks) can be a useful first step if you want a break without a long-term exclusion.
Bank gambling blocks
Most major UK banks — including Monzo, Starling, Barclays, Lloyds, HSBC, NatWest and Santander — let you block gambling transactions on your card directly in their app, usually with a cooling-off period before it can be switched off. This stops payments to gambling companies at the source.
Blocking software
Gamban (free via TalkBanStop) and BetBlocker (free) block gambling sites and apps across your devices, including sites not covered by GamStop.
Deposit limits and reality checks
If you bet and want to stay in control, use the tools every UK bookmaker is required to provide:
- Deposit limits — cap what you can deposit per day, week or month. Set the limit before you bet, not after a loss. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately; raising one has a cooling-off delay by design.
- Reality checks — on-screen reminders showing how long you've been logged in and your net position.
- Account history — check your real net spend monthly. The number is often different from what we remember.

Our commitment
FreeBetsLad is operated by FYBO LLP and promotes responsible gambling on every page of this site. We will never describe betting as a source of income, never target anyone under 18, and never present any bet as a guaranteed winner. Every bookmaker offer we link to is marked 18+ with terms applying, and this page is linked from every page on the site.
